The SAT is a standardized college admissions test that assesses critical reasoning abilities in reading, math and English grammar. Each component (critical reading, math, and writing) is scores out of 800 points. These component scores are then summed to calculate a total composite score out of a maximum 2400 points.
SAT test scores are required by numerous secondary education institutions to determine admission eligibility. Score requirements vary dependent upon individual college/university specifications.
In the past, colleges “superscored” (summed the highest section scores from all tests taken). Now, though, the SAT is score-choice and students only submit their highest composite score from a single test date.
